Welcome to Arohanui

We hope you enjoy looking around our website where you will find information about our school, our students and our learning community. Arohanui is a special place where all learners are valued, included and celebrated...

Suzanne Cook-Mitchell

Suzanne, our beloved Associate Principal for many years, passed away one year ago on 13 August. The school staff are getting together on this day to share our memories and stories and to plant a young Pohutukawa in memory of her. She was the leader of the Pohutukawa Syndicate at Arohanui, and was also the moving force behind the sensory garden at Base School, so the tree-planting will be a fitting memorial to her. Rest in peace Suzanne.

We are now on Facebook ...

We now have a school Facebook page! Search ‘Arohanui Special School’. Our page is set up so we can share with staff and families photos, stories and information about the great things that are happening across the school. I would like to encourage all staff and families to 'Like' our page. Thank you to those who have already done so - we have now passed the '100' mark!

Matariki and Hangi

Our Matariki event was a great success. All our senior and intermediate classes and many whanau and staff attended. There was a presentation by students and a rousing haka, followed by the hangi which was plentiful and delicious! Thank you to all the students, staff and families who worked hard preparing and cooking the food, and presenting waiata and performances to make this such a wonderful occasion. We also warmly thank Tegel Foods for their generous donation of the chicken for the hangi.

Pictured are students helping prepare the vegetables for the hangi, the Base 3 Matakriki performance, a wonderful haka, and serving and eating the delicious hangi.

The Warehouse WestCity - thank you!!

The Warehouse at WestCity has Arohanui School as their targeted fundraising recipient. We have been very fortunate to receive several donations from them through this fundraising, the latest was last month. Pictured is Shaki Padayatchi AP receiving a cheque for $397.09. We warmly thank the staff at The Warehouse, not only for their generous donations, but also for work they do supporting our senior students who do their work experience at the store.
