Intial Contact | Families may approach the school for information on the services we offer | | All prospective families must be formally introduced through GSE.
Expression of interest form will be completed and a copy given to the appropriate school leader.
Families will be presented with an information pack including: Specialist services brochure School brochure School information booklet
Families will be told about entry criteria, including ORRS and Section 9. | | Class Visits with School Leader | The principal assigns a school leader to make contact with the family and organise visits to appropriate classrooms. Possible options for progression through the school may be discussed. | | Post- Visit follow up pre-enrolment information | The school leader contacts the family after the visit to gauge interest. Additional class visits if the family is interested in enrolling and the enrolment process is explained.
A follow up letter is sent outlining enrolment date and time and what to bring, including: Birth certificate ORRS verification letter (if available) Names and contact details of service providers and therapists involved with the child.
| | Pre-Enrolment Visit | If possible the school leader and appropriate specialist will visit the child in their preschool setting or at home to carry out informal assessments. | | Section 9 | The family contacts GSE and requests a Section 9 agreement. | | Formal Enrolment | In most cases the Principal does the formal enrolment. This includes: Contact information, diagnosis, academic, social and care needs Application for transport assistance Transport care plan Stationery requirements | | Hand over meeting | Whenever possible a handover meeting will be held prior to the student start date. It could include parents, school leader, teacher, Arohanui therapists, previous therapists. Information on student’s previous history, family, therapy needs etc. will be obtained.
| | Transition Visits | The school leader will co-ordinate transition visits to the new class placement and information for the student prior to enrolment, and will inform specialists of visits. | | School Entry | | | Assessment | The teacher and specialists will complete an assessment profile and carry out the required assessment soon after the student starts school. | | IEP | The initial IEP meeting will be 4 or 5 weeks after school entry |
